February 19th - 22nd

This week we built some bridges. First we started by watching a video about some kids in India who had to cross a rushing river to get to school. Then we started to design a blue print of a bridge that we would build. Next we built our bridges using materials like popsicle sticks, stir sticks, string and LOTS OF TAPE! After we finished we made a video where we talked about why our bridges were strong and why they might fail. Finally we tested our bridges by piling huge Jenga blocks (that weighed 18 and 1/2 small blocks) on our bridges until they collapsed. We are super excited because Ms. Nguyen has come back to our class! Ms. Nguyen is a student teacher who has come from the U of C. She has been working with some of us to make better mind maps about resources in Canada like coal, gold and lumber. February 4th - 8th

This week in Social Studies we began to research celebrations that we have in Canada. The first thing that we did was we brainstormed some questions. We asked, what day is the celebration held on? and what traditions do we have for the celebration? This time we used videos like Are We There Yet to help us with some of our research. We learned about some celebrations like Stampede, Canada Day and Halloween. For Math we began practicing our 1-5 mixed times tables because we are ready for a challenge since we have already practiced each times table. Parents can help help us by writing down some questions or asking us and that will help us get better. We can also play games like Prodigy or Free Rice. One of our favourite things to do this week is we finished reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. This is a story about a little boy who is very poor but he wins a golden ticket to visit a special factory run by a famous chocolate make name Willy Wonka. Shi Ha! That is the sound we
