May 21-31st

Class Blog May 21st - 31st Last week we started building catapults for our engineering unit in Science. We used what we have learned about used leavers. We also looked back at the 7 steps of being an engineer. This helped us to remember to research catapults before we started building. Some of us even took notes and drew diagrams. After that we designed, tested and redesigned our catapults to see if they solved our problem. In gym and Math we have been doing our class olympics. We have been using measurement to help us record our results. The first event that we did was the standing long jump and after that we did our running long jump. For both of these events we recorded our results to the nearest centimeter. Then we did a 75 m sprint. We used seconds to record our results for this event. the final events we did this week were a botchi ball shot put, where we used cm and a tennis ball throw which we recorded in meters. We have been doing art about some of the countries that we

May 6-10

May 6-10 Thank you to all of the parents who were able to come to our assembly on Friday. We enjoyed sharing some of the learning that we have been doing about different countries and public speaking. This past week we have begun writing reports about the countries that we have chosen to research. We are using the sketch notes that we were taking using text and internet resources. We have been using our Talk For Writing report about Canada as an exemplar to help us to remember how to group our information into paragraphs and to include introductory sentences. In Math we have been starting to look into division. We started off by playing a game where we rolled dice and made multiplication arrays. The arrays also showed us how multiplication and division are linked. During gym we were finishing off our volleyball unit that we started with Sports Hub. We were playing Islandball using our serves. To win the game we needed to move our whole team over to the other side of the court u

April 29 - May 3

April 29 - May 3 This week we went on a science field trip to Telus Spark. One of our favourite things was the bed of nails. We thought it would hurt but it didn't. We also got to drink out of a toilet that was actually a water fountain. They had an exhibit about the circus and you could dress up in costumes. Some people could also walk across a tightrope but we didn't have time to try that. There was an area of the science centre that looked at electricity. There was a spot that you could send Morris code through wires. There was also some houses with wires and you had to connect wires to the houses from the electricity poles and the goal was to light up all the houses. Some people found an exhibit where you could shock yourself when you put two fingers on metal plates to complete a circuit. At Telus Spark we started learning about our next Science Unit, Simple Machines. There was a classroom at the science centre where we. We learned about the 7 types of simple machin
