April 29 - May 3

This week we went on a science field trip to Telus Spark. One of our favourite things was the bed of nails. We thought it would hurt but it didn't. We also got to drink out of a toilet that was actually a water fountain. They had an exhibit about the circus and you could dress up in costumes. Some people could also walk across a tightrope but we didn't have time to try that.

There was an area of the science centre that looked at electricity. There was a spot that you could send Morris code through wires. There was also some houses with wires and you had to connect wires to the houses from the electricity poles and the goal was to light up all the houses. Some people found an exhibit where you could shock yourself when you put two fingers on metal plates to complete a circuit.

At Telus Spark we started learning about our next Science Unit, Simple Machines. There was a classroom at the science centre where we. We learned about the 7 types of simple machines and then we built a machine with wheels, axels, cams, pulleys and the power came from us. We even noticed that we have simple machines around our school because in music our ukuleles  have screws and gears to tighten the strings.

In class we have been practicing our lines for our assembly which is next week. Our assembly is all about 9 different countries from around the world. We have been practicing our scripts and trying to memorize our parts as well as speak with confidence and expression.

In Math we have been collecting data and using it to make tally charts. We have been making conclusions about our data using words like most or least. Finally this week we are going to try and make a pie chart using our tally charts.

April 16

Good morning everyone, I just wanted to remind everyone that we are having our first Google Meet tomorrow at 11 am. If you have not been able to log onto Google Classroom please contact me and I will try to help out however I can. To get onto Google Classroom log onto your student email in the same way that you would get onto Google Docs at school. I should have sent you a class invite. Remember this week we are using Raz Kids for Reading and Prodigy for Math and it would be wonderful if you were practicing your multiplication facts. Grade 3's need to know up to 5 x 5 and the grade 4's need to know up to 7 x 7. We will be using these skills next week when we begin using Google Classroom. Have a great day.

April 14 - 17th Math

Hello, This week for Math we will be using Prodigy  prodigygame . Prodigy is a Maths game where students answer math questions in order to cast spells and collect points. I have assigned questions related to Math concepts that we have covered in class. Once those questions have been answered the program chooses appropriate additional questions based on the students ability level. It is important not to give too much support when students are answering the questions otherwise the program will continue to give out even more challenging questions.  How to help If you notice that they are having trouble with a questions, let them answer but then show them on a piece of paper either what the question is asking or how you might solve the problem. Also near the top of the question there is a prompt button that will give a clue and some math tools such as pens and 100 charts that can also support them. To prepare for next week please practice Multiplication facts with your c
