December 9th - 13th

December 9th - 13th

This week, in Science, we have been exploring more about waste in our world by looking at recycling. We explored recycling by using our scrap paper to make new paper. We started by collecting up waster paper and then we turned it into pulp by shredding the paper and then putting it into a bucket of water.

Over 24 hours we let the paper scraps soak in the water and stirred the pulp to break the paper into even finer pieces. The next day we took the pulp and laid it onto a screen on a lattice so that we could spread it smooth and press out some of the extra water. Finally we laid it onto a flat surface and let it dry over the weekend.

For Math this week we started off by doing a survey about which pictures we wanted to draw during our Friday Art. We needed to conduct a fair survey and complete a clear accurate tally chart. Then we used our data to complete a bar graph.

We also looked at arrays and how they are used to better understand multiplication. Here is a Khan Academy video that explains arrays more array Khan Academy video.  Another skill we worked on was estimating the length of things. We learned about the difference of making an estimation and then making an actual measurement with a ruler. Finally we explored what the word mass means and that we would use grams or kilograms to measure mass and that we would use mm, cm or m to measure length.

We continued to use the Glenbow artifact kit to explore artifacts of settlers to Alberta. We also looked at biographies and photographs of early settlers.

On Friday we used our Math Survey an did a drawing using the Grinch and Max. We followed along using the drawing steps. Then we used our creativity to create an interesting background and colour choice. Finally we responded to the art work of other people in the class.

Good morning everyone, I am still in the process of calling everyone and letting you know your new Razkids' login and making sure that you are able to get onto Google Classroom. For the students that I have not called yet, you can go to your gmail and use the link that I sent you to join our Google Classroom. It has been great talking to you. It should be nice today so get out and enjoy a walk to the sunshine.

April 16

Good morning everyone, I just wanted to remind everyone that we are having our first Google Meet tomorrow at 11 am. If you have not been able to log onto Google Classroom please contact me and I will try to help out however I can. To get onto Google Classroom log onto your student email in the same way that you would get onto Google Docs at school. I should have sent you a class invite. Remember this week we are using Raz Kids for Reading and Prodigy for Math and it would be wonderful if you were practicing your multiplication facts. Grade 3's need to know up to 5 x 5 and the grade 4's need to know up to 7 x 7. We will be using these skills next week when we begin using Google Classroom. Have a great day.

Welcome Back April 6th 2020

Hi everyone, I hope that everybody had a wonderful break. I know that it was not as social as we would have wanted and the weather has not quite met my expectations of spring yet. But we are back! Over the next couple of days I will be contacting each of you to find out how your break has been and how your family is handling the new situation. I will also be asking you other questions: is anything that we can help you or your family with? can we help you get in contact with any community supports? what kind of computer access do you have? do you need paper learning packages? do you know your student email and log in information? do you need your passwords reset? do you need help getting onto D2L/ Google Classroom? is your guardian receiving emails? Once we have all of this information we will be in a much better position to help you learn from home. Thanks to the people who were checking the blog over the break.  For today I will be adding things to the...
