April 12 - 19

Thank you to all of the students for their outstanding performances on our Spring Variety Show and to all of the parents for attending.

We had a very busy week finishing up our inquiry project into bridges. We completed our final builds by making last minute tests and redesigns. After that we reflected on all of our learning and answered many questions to evaluate our learning. Finally we practiced and filmed our reflections using the doceri app.

Bridge Reflection Questions

1.   What materials did you choose and why did you choose them?

2.   What design features and shapes did you use to make your structure stronger and more stable?

3.   How did your plan change as you engaged in the learning process?

4.   What were some things that helped you work cooperatively with your group?

5.   What were some challenges you faced with your group? How did you overcome them?

6.   How do you think the people in Uttarakhand would feel if you built this bridge design for them?

7.   What modifications would you have to make to your bridge to make them happy?

8.   Why is it important for real life engineers to research, test and redesign before they build their bridges?

During social studies we began researching some countries of our choice. We have been learning many interesting facts about the geography, landmarks and celebrations so far. Our research has led us to using both books and the internet and we have continued to use sketchnotes to record our learning.

In gym we started a unit in lacrosse. It was a bit challenging learning how to throw and catch, especially over hand. On Wednesday we had some special teachers come in from Sports Hub to begin teaching us about volleyball. If we want there is a club starting up to learn volleyball on Wednesday after school.

Ms. Nguyen started a new art project with us on Thursday. We are making a silhouette of a bridge during sunset. Our art tools are water colours and sharpie pens. We are excited to finish up on Monday.

Have a great long weekend and remember that there is no school until Tuesday April 23rd.

April 16

Good morning everyone, I just wanted to remind everyone that we are having our first Google Meet tomorrow at 11 am. If you have not been able to log onto Google Classroom please contact me and I will try to help out however I can. To get onto Google Classroom log onto your student email in the same way that you would get onto Google Docs at school. I should have sent you a class invite. Remember this week we are using Raz Kids for Reading and Prodigy for Math and it would be wonderful if you were practicing your multiplication facts. Grade 3's need to know up to 5 x 5 and the grade 4's need to know up to 7 x 7. We will be using these skills next week when we begin using Google Classroom. Have a great day.

April 14 - 17th Math

Hello, This week for Math we will be using Prodigy  prodigygame . Prodigy is a Maths game where students answer math questions in order to cast spells and collect points. I have assigned questions related to Math concepts that we have covered in class. Once those questions have been answered the program chooses appropriate additional questions based on the students ability level. It is important not to give too much support when students are answering the questions otherwise the program will continue to give out even more challenging questions.  How to help If you notice that they are having trouble with a questions, let them answer but then show them on a piece of paper either what the question is asking or how you might solve the problem. Also near the top of the question there is a prompt button that will give a clue and some math tools such as pens and 100 charts that can also support them. To prepare for next week please practice Multiplication facts with your c
