January 14th - 17th

Well we survived the week in the freezer.

This week in Science we began exploring the different Animal classes. We started by researching about fish and then amphibians. The first thing we did was learn about some important vocabulary that we needed to know like vertebrate, cold-blooded, habitat, carnivore, herbivore, adaptations and lifecycle Then we read articles and watched videos to collect information. We learned about why we need to record our resources and why it is important to use more than one resource. Finally we learned about how we can use clear questioning to find information in a search engine like google

In Math, we were looking at strategies to get faster at our subtraction facts. and making to 10 were two strategies that we could use to get quicker at subtraction. Our goal is to be able to solve subtraction problems up to 18 in less than 3 seconds. We practiced all week for 2 minutes a day and had a quiz to see how many questions we could do in 5 minutes. Next Friday we will try this again and see if we can do more than we did this week.

To go with our new Science unit about Animals we learned how to draw a tree frog for our Friday Art. As a class we discussed some of the things that we learned about amphibians and we added some of the facts that we learned about these amazing animals. Take a look at some of our examples. We are becoming much better artists.

April 16

Good morning everyone, I just wanted to remind everyone that we are having our first Google Meet tomorrow at 11 am. If you have not been able to log onto Google Classroom please contact me and I will try to help out however I can. To get onto Google Classroom log onto your student email in the same way that you would get onto Google Docs at school. I should have sent you a class invite. Remember this week we are using Raz Kids for Reading and Prodigy for Math and it would be wonderful if you were practicing your multiplication facts. Grade 3's need to know up to 5 x 5 and the grade 4's need to know up to 7 x 7. We will be using these skills next week when we begin using Google Classroom. Have a great day.

April 14 - 17th Math

Hello, This week for Math we will be using Prodigy  prodigygame . Prodigy is a Maths game where students answer math questions in order to cast spells and collect points. I have assigned questions related to Math concepts that we have covered in class. Once those questions have been answered the program chooses appropriate additional questions based on the students ability level. It is important not to give too much support when students are answering the questions otherwise the program will continue to give out even more challenging questions.  How to help If you notice that they are having trouble with a questions, let them answer but then show them on a piece of paper either what the question is asking or how you might solve the problem. Also near the top of the question there is a prompt button that will give a clue and some math tools such as pens and 100 charts that can also support them. To prepare for next week please practice Multiplication facts with your c
