March 4th - March 8th

This week we started a new unit in gym all about skipping. Some of us learned how to do criss-crossing. Also some of us are beginning to try double jumping, which even Mr. Presssey can't do, yet. We like when we skip to music because it makes it more fun.

Early this week we had a guest come in. It was Mr. Guenther's brother and he came in to teach us about the engineering process for Science. He taught us that the weakest part of the bridge is the middle and that you can make your bridge strong by using triangles to make trusses. This reminds us of when we did an experiment to find out that corrugated materials are strong.

We have been practicing taking sketchnotes about different things. This is when we take notes but we really try to include pictures because our brains remember them better than notes. We took notes about what engineers are and what makes bridges strong.

Finally we strated writing our report all about Canada. We used all of our mindmap notes that we have been taking. We also used our Talk for Writing skills to remember how to write a report because if you can say a report you can write a report and that is our motto. We started our writing by making a plan and boxing up our report.

We have been practicing lots of Math and we still need to get better at subtraction with regrouping. We have set a goal for next week. We can help ourselves by practicing at home.

April 16

Good morning everyone, I just wanted to remind everyone that we are having our first Google Meet tomorrow at 11 am. If you have not been able to log onto Google Classroom please contact me and I will try to help out however I can. To get onto Google Classroom log onto your student email in the same way that you would get onto Google Docs at school. I should have sent you a class invite. Remember this week we are using Raz Kids for Reading and Prodigy for Math and it would be wonderful if you were practicing your multiplication facts. Grade 3's need to know up to 5 x 5 and the grade 4's need to know up to 7 x 7. We will be using these skills next week when we begin using Google Classroom. Have a great day.

April 14 - 17th Math

Hello, This week for Math we will be using Prodigy  prodigygame . Prodigy is a Maths game where students answer math questions in order to cast spells and collect points. I have assigned questions related to Math concepts that we have covered in class. Once those questions have been answered the program chooses appropriate additional questions based on the students ability level. It is important not to give too much support when students are answering the questions otherwise the program will continue to give out even more challenging questions.  How to help If you notice that they are having trouble with a questions, let them answer but then show them on a piece of paper either what the question is asking or how you might solve the problem. Also near the top of the question there is a prompt button that will give a clue and some math tools such as pens and 100 charts that can also support them. To prepare for next week please practice Multiplication facts with your c
