End of the Week September 30th - October 4th

End of the Week September 30th - October 4th

This week, we had our first snowy week of the year. We had lots of fun building snowmen and we even made a snow dinosaur one day. On Wednesday, we linked the snowmen to our work in math by estimating the height of the different snowmen and snowballs around the school. Our main focus this week, during our guided math, was to learn about patterns. We explored patterns counting forwards and backwards by 2's and 5's starting from both even and odd numbers. We made observations about what we noticed about how the ones and tens digits changed. Some of us even explored patterns counting by 25's. Here is an online game if you would like to practice recognizing and extending patterns. https://www.free-training-tutorial.com/pattern/towncreator/tc-pattern.html

In Physical Education class we put all of the basketball skills that we have learned together so we could play some 3 on 3 games. Mr. Pressey was assessing a bunch of skills that we have been learning including dribbling, chest passes, bounce passes, catching away from our bodies and proper shooting techniques.

We continued to learn more about writing a defeating fear narrative. We have gotten really good at orally retelling the story of The Skeleton Meets the Mummy. Once we got really good at remembering the story we started to change the story to make an imitation. Then we started to make a writing plan of our own imitation of the story. On Friday, we used our plan to write a clear orientation paragraph of our story.

During reading, we worked on becoming Code Breakers. We identified interesting words and phrases while we read books at our level. We also located words when we didn't understand.

There were two art projects this week. The first art project was related to Social Studies. We did a black and white painting of the boreal forest region of Alberta. We remembered to include pine trees and hilly land. Then we used pictures of animals and large trucks to complete our landscape. The other project we did was a step-by-step drawing of a zombie because it was fun and because Mr. Pressey's imitation story was all about a zombie.

Have a great week and remember that there is no school from the 11th to the 21st because of fall break.

April 16

Good morning everyone, I just wanted to remind everyone that we are having our first Google Meet tomorrow at 11 am. If you have not been able to log onto Google Classroom please contact me and I will try to help out however I can. To get onto Google Classroom log onto your student email in the same way that you would get onto Google Docs at school. I should have sent you a class invite. Remember this week we are using Raz Kids for Reading and Prodigy for Math and it would be wonderful if you were practicing your multiplication facts. Grade 3's need to know up to 5 x 5 and the grade 4's need to know up to 7 x 7. We will be using these skills next week when we begin using Google Classroom. Have a great day.

March 15th

March 15 Remember parents please book your parent teacher conference. You can do this by going to https://sis.cbe.ab.ca/public/home.html This week we continued to develop our engineering skills. We were designing our blue prints for our final bridge building activity. We were thinking about how shapes and materials will make our structures stronger. It was also important to think about how we could design using tension and compression. We have been exploring subtraction with regrouping again since it has been a long time and we were having some trouble remembering how to do it. We set a goal of getting 16 out of 32 subtraction regrouping questions correct and we achieved our goal :) Grade 3 Home Practice Grade 4 Home Practice
