End of Week November 12th -15th

This week in Science we began a new unit of study. We are looking at waste in our world. Our class started out by making a video about all of the things that we already knew about waste and garbage. The next day we did a kahoot test to find out some more about what we already knew and also to learn a bit about some new vocabulary like compost, toxic, landfill and recycling. Finally on Thursday and Friday we began watching a CBC news report about some of the garbage problems that are happening in Canada and we took some jot notes and did a news retell.
This is what we will be learning about during our Waste in the World Science unit.

In Language Arts, we finished out defeating fear novel, Welcome to Camp Nightmare. It had an interesting twist ending and we really enjoyed all of the cliff hanger chapter endings and descriptive words that the author used.

In Math, we spent lots of time exploring time. We learned how to tell time to the hour, to the half hour, to quarter past and quarter to. Some of this is still challenging but we are getting much better. We also explored how we can link this to fractions, which we will learn more about as the year goes on.

Parents remember that next week is Parent-Teacher Interviews. They are on Thursday from 12pm to 3pm and from 4pm until 8pm. You can book interviews at http://school.cbe.ab.ca/school/osgeiger

Thanks to the grade 5 and 6's who did a great job with their assembly. Also thank you to all of the parents who donated to our Veteran's Food Drive.

April 14 - 17th Math

Hello, This week for Math we will be using Prodigy  prodigygame . Prodigy is a Maths game where students answer math questions in order to cast spells and collect points. I have assigned questions related to Math concepts that we have covered in class. Once those questions have been answered the program chooses appropriate additional questions based on the students ability level. It is important not to give too much support when students are answering the questions otherwise the program will continue to give out even more challenging questions.  How to help If you notice that they are having trouble with a questions, let them answer but then show them on a piece of paper either what the question is asking or how you might solve the problem. Also near the top of the question there is a prompt button that will give a clue and some math tools such as pens and 100 charts that can also support them. To prepare for next week please practice Multiplication facts wi...
