April 9th

Hello!

Below is information about using Google Classroom and Google Meet.

We will be having our first Google Meet class meeting with students on Friday, April 17th at 11:00 am.

As we are learning how to create, attach and collect work, weekly literacy and math lessons will be posted in the Google Classroom and information emailed to families beginning the week of April 20th.

For next week, (if you haven’t done so already), please try to log in with your learner so that we can work though any issues. If something isn’t working or you would like more assistance, please email me and I will connect with you. Otherwise, for next week, please use Raz-kids and Prodigy to practice literacy and math skills.  Don’t forget to check the blog weekly.

-Mr. Pressey

Accessing Google Meet for the First Time
This week, our principal let you know that the Calgary Board of Education was activating Google Meet and Google Classroom to enable teachers and students to better connect with each other. This email outlines what to expect as we begin setting up times to connect with our students over the coming days.

Google Meet

Google Meet is a video conferencing application that enables us to host, and our students to join, organized ‘meetings’ in real-time. We are able to share their screen and guide students through tasks and/or documents and websites they wish to share.

Students will access Google Meet using their CBE Gmail address. As we begin to use these teaching and learning tools, we will work with our students to help them understand both the benefits and risks in using online tools.

First Google Meet Meeting:
We are planning to have our first Google Meet meeting on Friday, April 17th at 11:00 am.  By Tuesday April 14, you will have received an email that includes your child’s CBE Gmail address. Your child will have received an invitation to the google classroom via their CBE Gmail address by April 14th.

This first meeting will be a chance to connect through a video chat and reconnect after being away from the school and classroom. We will also discuss questions learners have about our new set up.

Accessing Google Classroom for the First Time
We will be using Google Classroom as a learning platform as we continue ongoing learning from home. Below is a brief introduction to Google Classroom and how students at O. S. Geiger will be accessing the tool.

Google Classroom

Google Classroom is an online platform that enables us to communicate with our students as well as assign and distribute tasks. Google Classroom gives us the ability work with our students in safe, manageable, and appropriate way. It will also help students manage their work while learning from home.

Students will access Google Classroom using their CBE G Suite ID. As we begin to use these new teaching and learning tools, we will work with our students and their families to help them understand both the benefits and risks of using online tools.

Accessing Google Meet or Classroom for the First Time
Google provides excellent resources to help with signing into Google Classroom and joining a class, along with other supports.
Ongoing G Suite Support

Students and Families can find more information and support on the CBE website

Thank you for your support and patience as we all adjust to ongoing learning at a distance. We will keep you informed every step of the way.

Good morning everyone, I am still in the process of calling everyone and letting you know your new Razkids' login and making sure that you are able to get onto Google Classroom. For the students that I have not called yet, you can go to your gmail and use the link that I sent you to join our Google Classroom. It has been great talking to you. It should be nice today so get out and enjoy a walk to the sunshine.

April 16

Good morning everyone, I just wanted to remind everyone that we are having our first Google Meet tomorrow at 11 am. If you have not been able to log onto Google Classroom please contact me and I will try to help out however I can. To get onto Google Classroom log onto your student email in the same way that you would get onto Google Docs at school. I should have sent you a class invite. Remember this week we are using Raz Kids for Reading and Prodigy for Math and it would be wonderful if you were practicing your multiplication facts. Grade 3's need to know up to 5 x 5 and the grade 4's need to know up to 7 x 7. We will be using these skills next week when we begin using Google Classroom. Have a great day.

Welcome Back April 6th 2020

Hi everyone, I hope that everybody had a wonderful break. I know that it was not as social as we would have wanted and the weather has not quite met my expectations of spring yet. But we are back! Over the next couple of days I will be contacting each of you to find out how your break has been and how your family is handling the new situation. I will also be asking you other questions: is anything that we can help you or your family with? can we help you get in contact with any community supports? what kind of computer access do you have? do you need paper learning packages? do you know your student email and log in information? do you need your passwords reset? do you need help getting onto D2L/ Google Classroom? is your guardian receiving emails? Once we have all of this information we will be in a much better position to help you learn from home. Thanks to the people who were checking the blog over the break.  For today I will be adding things to the...
